At the Washington, D.C. office of Senator Elizabeth Warren members of the peace and social justice movement CODEPINK converged and protested recent statements made by the Senator. “Why is Senator Warren, who stands up for the ‘little guy’ in the face of big banks and corrupt corporations in America, siding with big bully Israel,” asked CODEPINK cofounder Medea Benjamin.
Senator Warren has found herself in hot water with progressives after recent statements in support of the bombing in Gaza. “When Hamas puts its rocket launchers next to hospitals, next to schools, they’re using their civilian population to protect their military assets. And I believe Israel has a right, at that point, to defend itself,” said Senator Warren.
Many have been critical of the Senator Warren’s positions during the recent episodes of violence in Gaza, especially CODEPINK. “We’re here to tell Senator Warren and her staff that it is never acceptable to bomb schools and hospitals,” said Medea Benjamin. Roughly ten activist “sat-in” the Senators office this afternoon to highlight the very awkward position of the progressive savior.
